This mask is based on the Eloko, a mythological creature, believed in by the Nkundo people in the Congo, central Africa. The Eloko is said to be a man-eating dwarf with a huge snout who grows grass instead of hair and has bark-like skin. It lives in the hollow trees in the dense rain forest of Zaire and bewitches its victims by ringing a tiny magical bell. It was Sculpted in clay a plaster mold was made and then cast in latex rubber and painted with acrylic.
